ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Department of English under the School of Language, Literature and Arts is established in 2015, since days of inception of the University and has been contributing significantly to meet the set objectives of the University. The substantial progress of English Department in a short span of 06 years is really worthy of appreciation. At the present, it is running successfully full time M. A. and Ph. D. It has built up resources by way of books, journals and critical materials on the entire major components of Literature in English in general, and Indian English Literature in parti

cular. The department within the framework and stated objectives of the University, through its course/syllabus and various research/literary/cultural activities is promoting our Indian Culture, Values and Ethos. In the Department, students are being made aware about this through regular mode of teaching/seminars/social activities. Apart from the academic achievements the department is also taking sincere efforts to develop the standard of the students by conducting Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Cultural programmes to mould them. The courses offered by the Department are having interdisciplinary concentration in which students learn to interrogate texts of all sorts. Our coursework offers a very unique exposure to a wide array of texts, theories and disciplinary formations from around the world. MA students will also have the life time opportunity to pursue courses in other departments so as to develop new insights to comprehend literary studies.

VISION

The Department of English is aligned with vision of the University to revive the old glory of Great Ancient Indian Education System and enliven the present scenario by adding values to multifaceted aspects of knowledge, practice and wisdom for the benefit of humankind. It will provide the learners ample opportunities to pursue quality education and research in multifaceted dimensions of English language and literature to serve the changing needs of times.

MISSION

The Department of English is committed to innovative teaching, scholarship, and research that promote cultural awareness, diversity, and moral-ethical responsibility through literature and language. The department will encourage students to think critically and to reflect on what they have learned and promote environment of learning and an appreciation for a liberal education.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • To promote Indian Culture, Values and Ethos through English language and literature.
  • To provide quality teaching in English Language and literature with a multidisciplinary approach to the students admitted to various programmes of the university.
  • To adopt latest methodology available for teaching and research in English.
  • To explore new areas of research in English Language and Literature and guide the students to take up research projects in these areas.
  • To examine the latest developments in literary and critical theories and to use them in preparing research proposals.
  • To take  up  research  in the field of Comparative literature, Translation Studies, New Literature, Subaltern Studies, Virtual Language Teaching, Culture Studies, Literary Theory, English Language Teaching, Linguistics,  Indian Writing in English and other relevant areas.
  • To organize extension lectures, seminars, conferences, symposia, workshops etc. to enhance sharing of experience and knowledge with leading scholars of the world and participate in similar programmes organised by other agencies.
  • To publish creative and critical writings at appropriate forums.

  • Ph D Students Deepak Singh Baliyar selected by IIT-Delhi to participate in Language and Linguistic Seminar.
  • MA English Student Ms Ashwati Menon Qualified UGC –NET-English Dec, 2019
  • MA English Student Mr. Sanjeev Lodhi qualified CET Examination and also qualified MP School Teacher Examination.
  • Natasha Sharma, one of doctoral scholars secured 3rd Position in Self Composed Sonnet Category National Competition organized by Club Literati, Bhopal during Shakespeare Festival 2020 “Yours Virtually” from 23-26 April, 2020.
  • 02 M. Phil. Scholars Ms.  Nidhi Raghuwanshi, Ms. Simran Yadav and 01 Ph. D. Scholars Ms Muskan Solanki successfully completed their Online Research Methodology Course.
  • Around 12 students/scholars have successfully obtained certificates of Online Quiz Competitions and attempted Webinars being organized by different organizations and institutions.
  • Research Papers of Ph. D Scholars, Muskan Solanki, Soumya Tiwari and Natasha Sharma have been published in Educational Role of Language Journal, Poland, Oman Journal of ELT, Oman and DICE Review, Romania respectively.
