About the Department

As it is said in the ancient texts, “सत्यं ज्ञानमनन्तं ब्रह्म”, knowledge isn't a new and underlying synonym that can be created. It is omnipresent and always existed since the time immemorial. It is natural that every individual entity is engaged in becoming more knowledgeable, as a result of which, the reflection can be seen in the refinement of character. The fundamental source to becoming wise can be found by working on the co-relations between the behavioral principles of normal life and the philosophy of learning. As it is said in the Upanishads, “सह नौ यशः”, alternative education allows the co-existence and co-development of learner and facilitator. Alternative education talks about providing an interdependent environment of learning to the learner, also making the process of innate learning continuous by motivating the exchange of ideas, thoughts, activities and experiences between co-learners and associates. It is referring to the natural process of learning which makes learning enjoyable and supports the overall development of the student. It is characterized by the creation of a suitable environment for curiosity exploration activities and for a smooth sequence of pleasure. The principle characteristic of alternative education is to transform the integrated relation of knowledgeable, knowable & knowledge into eclectic joy through the process of learning. Here, the role of learner changes from a passive information gatherer to knowledge creator and all about innateness, learning, sharing, caring and co-existence.

In this context as defined in the aims and objectives of Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies department of Alternative Education is determined to study the mechanisms and effects of learning by establishing the fundamental character of learning by balancing the principles of learning inherent in the ancient Buddhist-Indic knowledge tradition and the researches held in the field of learning through modern science in light of ancient philosophical wisdom.
